Fête Interceltique en Périgord

overview

On the weekend of 31st May / 1st June 2008, the 5th "Interceltique en Périgord" Festival will open its doors to the public.

Following the brilliant success of earlier years, we've opted to hold it in a larger venue this year - the typical Dordogne village of Issigeac where we have found the perfect location for this growing festival. Issigeac, in the heart of the Périgord Noir, is well known for its typical and historic architecture, its warm and friendly people, as well as its famously colourful market showing off produce of all kinds every Sunday morning.

The Interceltique is organized each year by the cultural association Celte en Périgord. Our overall objective is to share the treasures of Celtic culture in a spirit of open-mindedness, conviviality and creativity. The activities of Celte en Périgord features Celtic culture as the continuing expression of an old age tradition but one that is still alive, dynamic, and constantly interacting with neighbouring cultures. Since its start, l'Interceltique du Périgord has welcomed each year some 3000 visitors with a memorable feast of great music, pageantry, historic tradition and fine food – genuinely fun for the whole family.

This year features an exceptional programme, with popular groups and artists such as

Black Water from Ireland

Llangres from Asturias

Mutenrohi from Galicia with Cristina Pato, who honours us with her presence

Compagnie Skald, which performs traditional folktales, illustrated with music for young and old

and many other groups, pipe bands and bagadou

On the site of the festival, you can also meet Les Enfants de Finn, a company which does historic reconstruction of life in the 1st & 2nd Centuries B.C. and who have enlivened Interceltique from its very first year.

And there’s more: costumed presentations by music bands, crafts, and musical instrument makers. And for the collectors among you, most of the musician will sign their CD after their performances.
